Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative said the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
